He arrived hooded and, amid boos and insults from Juan Román Riquelme’s courageous audience, he was able to express his vote for him. This Thursday, the libertarian referred to the events experienced in La Bombonera and lashed out directly against the elected leader of the club he is a fan of.

What happened on Sunday at the Bombonera with Milei?

On Sunday 17th, Javier Milei kept his promise to approach Bombonera to offer his support in the form of a vote to the list led by him Andrés Ibarra it is accompanied Maurizio Macri as a vice, with the aim of defeating the ruling party led by Juan Roman Riquelme.

The libertarian leader’s stay in La Boca was the first news of a day that lasted until night, with the expectation placed on the outcome of the elections. Milei had played hardball in the preparatory phase, pointing out Riquelme as part of the “populism” that “had settled in the club” and publicly hoping for the return of Macriism.

Milei, active member 76,926, entered the stadium from the central hall overlooking Brandsen Street when the clocks showed 10 and 10 in the morning, and then entered the pitch from one of the corners of the Xeneize temple, through a special sector set up for Boca’s safety and personal custody.

In those meters up to the tent, under the open sky, the President of the Nation was seen wearing a hood that protected him from the rain, which is still incessant in Buenos Aires. Few saw him, and a few isolated whistles were heard: the most intense ones would come later.

Milei always showed up at his table in silence, and voted without queuing, to speed up the operation and avoid any overflows, in an environment where there was also little light (only blue and yellow LEDs). However, the word of mouth was tremendous and the screams began to echo from inside the gigantic gazebo and exploded as soon as the president exited from the same point he had entered.

The fact is that that space between the tents and the open benches of the Bombonera was the place where the members who had voted retreated, and many took advantage of it to stay a little longer and take some photos inside the camp. Those seconds in which Milei appeared without a hood again were intense and showed a certain weakness in the custody that must protect the president.

A couple of hours after the meeting between Milei and the fans, the candidate Ibarra expressed his disappointment at the hostile treatment that the president received at the Bombonera, and indicated “the usual violent people” as responsible for that action.

“At Unidos por Boca we believe that our club must always be an example of respect and institutional quality, regardless of the political differences that may exist,” wrote Ibarra, who aspires to become president of Boca.

Mauricio Macri, vice president of that list, did the same: “What a shame to see images of men who claim to be Boca fans, when in reality they are terribly rude and unspontaneous, insulting the President of the Republic instead of celebrating his departure. “to vote for the future of our beloved club,” the former president wrote.

And he added, already in a country tone: “What we saw, unfortunately, is what happened 4 years ago with Boca. I hope for the future and the good of our club that it ends today and changes once and for all.”

There was no mention of the issue from the governing party, at least from the social networks of the club or its most recognized leaders, and there was talk of “a party with more than 94 thousand members authorized to vote”

Milei, who responded to the attacks with indifference, greeting the public lukewarmly, avoided making any statements on the matter and did not express himself through his networks until last Thursday.
