The Maple Leafs defeated the Bruins to meet Lightning

William Nylander scored twice when the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Boston Bruins 5-2 on Friday night. With the victory, the Maple Leafs are guaranteed to face two -time defending Stanley Cup champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in the first round of the playoffs.

The Bruins will have an appointment with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ilya Mikheyev, Nick Abruzzese on his first goal in the NHL and Pierre Engvall with an empty net also threaded a needle for the Maple Leafs.

Erik Kallgren stopped 24 shots for the Torontonians, with 115 points this season, 10 more than their previous record.

Trent Frederic and Jake DeBrusk flashed the red light for the Bruins, which saw Jeremy Swayman turn away 22 pucks.

30 goals for Tkachuk

Brady Tkachuk had a goal and assist as the Ottawa Senators beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2.

Josh Norris and Travis Hamonic scored as Austin Watson completed the scoring with an empty net for the Senators, who will not enter the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.

James van Riemsdyk and Owen Tippett responded for the Flyers, which ended in one of the worst campaigns in franchise history.

Tkachuk scored 30 goals for the first time in his career, hitting the target in power play with just 3:22 left in the third period.

Anton Forsberg stopped 32 of 34 pucks for the Senators. His Flyers counterpart, Martin Jones, intercepted 32 shots.
