The new president of Saint Lawrence, Marcelo Moretti, denounced that “(Marcelo) Tinelli and (Matías) Lammens were complicit in the economic hollowing out” of the club, whose liabilities they estimate to be close to $30 million. The leader assured that he had noted an “alarming” financial situation, the result of a “fraudulent administration”, and promised to “bring those responsible to justice” following the results of the audit commissioned by his management.
“We knew that there were debts, that San Lorenzo was in a difficult situation, but what we found is worse than we thought. Today we have inhibitions, embargoes, unpaid bonuses, months of overdue salaries with employees and three months of debt to the professional staff and the technical staff”, explained the new president in the statements released to Radio Mitre.
Moretti defined the club’s reality as “unheard of” and offered an example which, in his point of view, supports this assessment. “On the day of our inauguration (December 26) we wanted to give a t-shirt to Paulo Silas (former club player) and there wasn’t any. They didn’t leave anything, not even the computers,” he said.
“Tinelli and Lammens were complicit in the emptying in equal parts and (Horacio) Arreceygor let her pass, pushed her forward, reported nothing. He tried to throw the earth under the carpet, let the next one pass and now the bombs explode”, graphic.
Lammens chaired the club from 2012 to 2019. At the end of that year Tinelli won the elections with more than 80% of the votes, but his management lasted less than a year and a half, as in May 2021 he applied for the license which led to his final resignation. His place was taken by Arreceygor, deputy of the entrepreneur and television host, who held the presidency until the end of his mandate.
“Generally the big clubs spend more than they have and at the end of the year they compensate with the sale of a player. This is not healthy and without a doubt Lammens and Tinelli have made it an immoral practice. You can’t spend all the money more time of the one who enters”, he criticized.
“Loans for millions of dollars were requested and it is not known why they did this. The club was sold for millions of dollars, nothing was built and the team did not become champions in recent years. We owe it to everyone. The question it’s where the money is, that’s why we will do an audit,” he denounced.
“There was fraudulent administration, which is why it will definitely end up in court. We have already appointed a law firm related to administrative law to start the verification process,” he said.
Moretti finally revealed that San Lorenzo would need “30 million dollars to clear” its accounts and admitted that the new leaders are contributing “with money from their own pockets” to meet the most urgent commitments.
The club has already closed at least five reinforcements for its professional team, but has not yet been able to announce them because it has received an inhibition for non-payment by Colombian midfielder Yeison Gordillo. At the same time, there is speculation that another embargo will be imposed by Mexico’s Monterrey due to non-payment of the second installment of the transfer of Paraguayan Adam Bareiro.
