The Women’s Champions League final will be played between FC Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais. Both teams confirmed their spots for the ultimate match by winning their respective semi-finals on Saturday.
The final will take place on May 21, in Turin, Italy. A Canadian will be part of it, Kadeisha Buchanan, a member of Olympique.
Seven-time tournament champions, the Lyon team defeated their national rivals, Paris Saint-Germain, twice without much difficulty. After a 3-2 and 2-1 victory, Lyon are in the final for the tenth time in their history.
After a white season, without even the slightest title, the Lyonnaises made the experience speak six days after a controlled first leg.
The match on Saturday was played in front of 43,254 fans, a record for a women’s soccer club match in France.
Lyon will travel to Italy with determination, confidence, and even one certainty: never to lose to Barça.
Barcelona advanced to the final, despite losing to Wolfsburg
FC Barcelona also qualified for the final, despite a 2-0 defeat in the semi-final second leg to Wolfsburg. Their 5-1 first leg win was enough to secure their spot in the next round.
Barca clinched the title last year with a victory over Chelsea in the final.
The return from Wolfsburg was a miracle. The Germans, leaders of the Bundesliga, could be content with finishing an impressive series of 45 consecutive matches without defeat for the women of Barcelona.
