He was having a hard time InterMiami at the start of the friendly match with Al Nassr. With Lionel Messi looking worriedly from the substitutes’ bench, and Cristiano Ronaldo in the area – he is recovering from an injury – Gerardo Martino’s team was already losing by two goals before the 10 minutes of play. But at 12 he conceded a truly great goal from behind midfield.

Frenchman Aymeric Laporte kicked a free kick from around 60 metres. He looked up and saw that Drake Callender, the American team’s goalie, was distracted and ahead. And then he decided to hit the target directly. The ball ended up in Callender’s net, despite his futile efforts.

It was the only thing that was missing from Tata Martino’s Inter, who for some years have shown serious defensive problems with the five defenders scheme which does not give any security either in goals or at the start.

The first two goals, in fact, came from their own errors which the rival attackers took advantage of and, with a little pressure, made the difference.

Just like what happened last Monday against Al Hilal, the start of this match at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia was a real ordeal.
