This Tuesday, the 6th, the court had its second day of testimony and was attended by police officers who attended to the alleged victim of sexual abuse. In their statements, the police team brought to light more details of how the complaint was made.
A female police officer told the judge that she met the alleged victim when she went to make the report. She said the young woman was distressed and had already seen a doctor. There, she talked about the sexual assault and was nervous, she was afraid that her identity would be revealed because the attacker was famous. She also said that the woman was taking medication for anxiety, but was still nervous.
Another police officer, who was at the club that night, said that the woman was very nervous and couldn’t speak to herself, so much so that her friends helped her report what happened. She said the man didn’t let her leave the bathroom and touched her. “The only thing she said was that she didn’t want money, but justice, and that she had been raped by Daniel Alves”, said the police officer.
An agent said he was at the nightclub that night to comply with the reporting protocol, collected evidence and took photos, in addition to collecting fingerprints in the bathroom. Then, the agents also said that Daniel Alves’ lawyer said he could give a statement on January 20th and that was the date on which the police decided to arrest him.
The woman who made the complaint against Daniel Alves gave her statement on Monday, the 5th, and her identity is kept confidential to protect her from harassment by the press. This Tuesday, the 6th, Daniel’s wife, model Joana Sanz, also gave her statement and said that her husband arrived home drunk that night.
Daniel Alves is accused of having sexually assaulted a woman in December 2022 in a nightclub in Barcelona, Spain. He has been detained since January 20, 2023 in preventive detention to prevent him from traveling outside the European country. The trial is expected to last until Wednesday, the 7th, which is when he will give his testimony. There is a possibility that he will receive 9 years in prison. For now, the court does not have a deadline to present the final sentence.
