The Argentine Under 23 teammanaged by Javier Mascherano, look for a win this Thursday against Paraguay in the South American pre-Olympic tournament to get closer to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The match will be played starting at 5pm (Argentine time) at the Brígido Iriarte National Stadium in Caracas, Venezuela, and will be broadcast on television by the TyC Sports signal.
Argentina will take to the field after drawing last Monday with Venezuela (2-2) in the first match of the final quadrangular which will qualify the top two in Paris.
Against the Venezuelans, Mascherano’s team suffered the expulsions of defenders Valentín Barco and Gonzalo Luján in a match with a lively ending due to a controversial penalty awarded to the “vinotinto” who scored the equaliser.
Barco and Luján have each received a suspension and will not be able to play against the “Guaraní” team, but will be available to the coach for the final match against Brazil next Sunday.
If Argentina beats Paraguay and draws with Brazil in the classic, they will be guaranteed a ticket to the Olympic Games. In the event of a draw and a winner in the clash between Venezuela and Brazil, the latter will be forced to win on the last day against the “yellow-greens”.
In case of defeat, Mascherano’s men will still have a chance to qualify by beating Brazil and waiting for Paraguay to do the same against Venezuela.
Paraguay, for their part, arrives motivated by the 1-0 victory over Brazil and if they add another three points against Argentina they will be able to participate in the Olympic Games.
In the group stage, Argentina and Paraguayans had drawn 1-1 on January 21 in Zone B.
