Convicted of rape, Robinho provides discreet support to his former teammate, Daniel Alves, who is also on trial in a case of sexual abuse
Last Thursday, 8th, the former football player Robinhowho was sentenced to nine years in prison for gang rape by the Italian courts and must undergo a new verdict in Brazil, sent a discreet message to Daniel Alves. His former fieldmate awaits the outcome of his trial in a sexual abuse case by the Spanish Court.
When contacted by Record, Robinho preferred not to elaborate on the matter, but offered his support to the player with a short and very discreet message: “I better not say anything… May God bless Daniel Alves’ life“, said the former star of the Brazilian team, who accumulated titles when he defended the team alongside the athlete.
So far, Robinho has been one of the few players to speak out about the case. In turn, Daniel awaits the outcome of the trial after being accused of sexual assault against a woman in a nightclub in December 2022. The trial, which lasted three days and took place this week, included testimonies from several people involved.
The Court does not have a set deadline for announcing the sentence. As a result, the athlete will remain in preventive detention until the sentence is defined. It is worth noting that the accusation asks that he receive more than a decade in prison, similar to the sentence that Robinho received in another European trial; understand what happens if he is convicted.
In December 2020, Robinho received a nine-year prison sentence for a case of sexual violence against a young woman of Albanian origin in 2013, which allegedly occurred in a nightclub in Italy, similar to Daniel’s case. However, the player has already received the sentence from the highest European court, but it has not yet been decided whether he should serve his sentence in Italy or Brazil.
What did Daniel Alves say in his testimony at the trial?
On the third day of the trial in the sexual assault case, Brazilian football player Daniel spoke for the first time. In the previous days, he only listened to the witnesses and analyzes of the experts who investigated the case. In his testimony, he recalled what happened that night and even cried when talking about his wife, Joana Sanz.
At the beginning of his testimony, Daniel Alves said that he went out to eat with his friends at around 2:30 pm and they consumed some alcoholic drinks, such as wine, whiskey and sake. Soon after, they went to a bar and then to a nightclub. He said that two women were already in the reserved area and his friend, Bruno, called them.
Daniel danced with one of them and said he thought they knew who he was because they asked to take a photo. The athlete said that the atmosphere became warmer between him and the woman he was dancing with and they exchanged affection. Then, he asked her to go to the bathroom and she accepted. He said he entered the bathroom first and the woman later.
“She was in front of me and we started the relationship. I remember she sat on me. I’m not a violent man. I didn’t force her to perform oral sex forcibly. She did not tell me anything. We were both enjoying ourselves and nothing more”, he said in the statement, according to the Globo Esporte website. Soon after, he said through tears that he went home and saw his wife in their bed.
