In Argentine football we often talk about investing in Inferior of clubs without paying too much attention to what is being said. The monetary contribution to increasingly professionalize these training areas is fundamental for growth. River has stood out throughout history for its prodigious youth sector. The last great exponents are Julián Álvarez and Enzo Fernández and now Claudio Echeverri and Franco Mastantuono have made a strong impact. And to continue on this path, Núñez’s team presented this week the new youth football structure in which more than 40 people will work.

Ermes Desio He is the brand new sporting director of River Formative Football, replacing Sebastián Pait. “We are very clear about what the River story requires”, Desio said on the club’s official website. And I add: “As a player I always had admiration and respect for those players who did something different: dribbling, getting the mark by showing talent. I am a strong defender of that style, that the creativity and freedom of being able to play football should not be lost, knowing dribble at the right moments, when the situation requires it”.

Desio is not an improviser Far from it: he was general coordinator of the AFA youth teams from 2017 to 2019 and was general coordinator of the training divisions of Estudiantes de La Plata (2014) and Talleres de Córdoba (2020).

“What comes out is a guideline and a training methodology, but then everyone has an opinion and must participate. What we don’t want is for kids to do something without feeling it. You can contribute, give your opinion, because the a good thing is to accept the help of others. The issue of communication is key and the coordination structure is for what they need. I told the coaches that our function is to make them improve so that they in turn make the kids better. The idea is to give them more power so they can always do a little more,” Desio explained.

The number of collaborators who will work side by side with Desio is surprising: 44! The presence of Fabio Radaelli, who during his racing career discovered and trained, among others, Lautaro Martínez.

For this gene to flourish there is a lot of work behind it, that of the coaches and the preparatory teams, that of Casa River, that of the River Institute. This is part of a moment of institutional growth of which youth football is part, with a new six-field facility that will be good for all of us. I thank Hermes and his entire team because the bright future of River is in their hands,” the vice president said. Matías Patanian during the presentation of the new working group.
