The match against the historic rival of life is the match that fans look for first as soon as the schedule is known. Is in the Professional League Cup There is a special condiment: they are all played on the same date. Of course, it is worth clarifying that there are few pure classics left. For example, of this weekend’s seventh day crossings, barely half can be considered in this category. These are the ones that were played between Saturday and Sunday: River-Boca, Independiente-Racing, Huracán-San Lorenzo, Gimnasia-Estudiantes and Newell’s-Rosario Central. Therefore, on Sunday evening, the question that arises is what the records were like after the classics of Argentine football. Here we examine them.

The widest of all

On Saturday Huracán and San Lorenzo also faced each other in a very boring draw at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó. The greatest neighborhood classic in the world, as the fans of San Lorenzo and Huracán called themselves, has 189 editions, with 87 victories for Ciclón (328 goals), 47 for Huracán (228 goals) and 55 draws. Moreover, a match was abandoned for both.

The other five

This Sunday evening, Rosario Central beat Newell’s 1-0 during their home visit. In the orbit of the AFA and Conmebol they played 198 matches, with 65 victories for Canalla (237 goals, including Malcorra’s last against Marcelo Bielsa), 49 defeats (205 goals) and 82 draws. Taking into account the official classics of the Rosario League and the Santa Fe cups, according to data from my colleague Carlos Durhand, in total they played 276 games, with 94 victories for Central and 77 for Newell’s (with today’s the difference is + 18).

In this seventh appointment the La Plata classic was also played. With today’s match there are 188 matches, with 66 victories for Estudiantes (267 goals), 51 for Gimnasia (221 goals) and 70 draws. Most of them played in AFA, but they played two international matches.

Banfield and Lanús have become classics in recent decades. Some still remember the classics until the 1980s with the rise of Los Andes and Banfield on the one hand, and those of Talleres-Lanús on the other. Despite this, in history they have played 130 matches, with 55 victories for Taladro (171 goals), 40 for Granate (157 goals) and 35 draws.

Finally, Talleres and Belgrano played 41 matches in AFA, with 11 wins for T (38 goals), 10 for Pirata (33 goals) and 11 draws. According to their Cordoban colleagues (Gustavo Farías and Mauricio Coccolo), without counting the friendlies, they played 255 official matches, including the Cordoba championship, with 96 victories for Talleres and 76 for Belgrano (+20 for T).
