Marcelo Tinelli’s closing of the door opened a new phase in San Lorenzo. In the midst of the severe football crisis, of the economic problems it is trying to channel, of the mobilizations of the opposition and the anger of the fans, the farewell of the television host helps a little to decompress, although it remains the internal quarrels.
Tinelli maintains a good relationship with Matías Lammens, but since the license was requested in 2021, the link with the person who replaced him in office was severed, Horace Arreceygor, who at one point said that if the employer decides to return, he will make his resignation available. From January 2020 to May of last year (when he applied for the license) MT held the position as president of Storm. How was your administration and how did you leave the Boedo institution?
The numbers were exposed when the balance of the 2020-2021 period was discussed with the Board of Directors, which had to be approved by the Assembly on May 12. he threw himself liability of 4,627,387,631 pesos, which dropped 22 percent (was 5,916,119,450) from the previous cycle. 16 percent are in foreign currency. Net Assets are 1,849 million pesos. Meanwhile, the football budget was reduced by 37 percent: from 4,455 million to 2,795 million pesos.
There are 16 months in total that he has been active on a daily basis, although sixty days after succeeding Lammens, of which he was vice president during his tenure, the pandemic that put the world in control is set. How did this affect San Lorenzo? 300 million pesos less revenue from social contributions, 60 million less from tariffs and 88 million less from loss of sale of subscriptions.

Campuses with millionaire contracts
But their main crush is within the club is the management of professional football. From the current leadership, they contend that the issue is left with numbers in red, with a panorama that is very difficult to manage and that for this reason they have had to deal with a more than important reduction that has been going on for almost a year. .
At the club they are accused of having “unpayable contracts” like with the Romero brothers (each worth a million dollars per year) and Franco Di Santo, for example. The value of that campus indicates a monthly budget of 1 million dollars, 80 percent of which is tied to a variable dollar. Currently, according to what they say from the blue and red entity, the campus budget is “500 thousand dollars and official value.”
Another inconvenience was the private contracts signed by some soccer players under Tinelli’s management, which led to conflicts, such as Alexander Donatti. The defender decided not to play in San Lorenzo anymore and absent himself from training as a sign of protest because he claimed part of his salary was directly agreed with Tinelli. From the club they say the documented contract is paid “almost daily”. But Donatti wants everyone to know, including the one he arranged with MT, which is 50 percent of his income, thing that in San Lorenzo they would not pay.
Faced with the need to adjust, Arreceygor, Lammens and company continued to remove high-profile contracts by terminating or by allowing players to claim Guilds and achieve freedom of action, as happened in Di Santo. Something similar happened to Santiago Vergini. Lucas Menossi was allowed to go to Tigre in exchange for a debt to the Matador de Victoria. Meanwhile, Romero, Diego Rodríguez, Diego Braghieri and Fernando Monetti, among others, were dismissed. Some are in lieu of debt and others agree to a repayment plan, such as the Paraguayan brothers.

The departure of Angel and Oscar Romero was one of the points that generated the most internal spark. It was Tinelli in his inner circle who classified as “mad” the fact of ending them. “They love but they can afford”, they stay around MT. Both Boedo (he put in 4 million dollars) and leader Marcelo Moretti (resigned his position as a member and is now an opponent) and former player and representative Walter Brizuela participated in the negotiations. . The discomfort, as they tell Storm, is because it was initially said that their contracts would be paid for by an “external contribution”, but that didn’t happen. As a result, they decided to end their relationship after Tinelli’s license.
“There is debt, yes, but San Lorenzo has a legacy. We can’t just talk about what is owed,” they said from the environment of the El Trece man, who in his farewell letter listed athletic achievements. and institutional. achievements throughout the nearly ten years he has been at the club with Lammens, such as winning the Copa Libertadores and reclaiming land at Av. La Plata in 1700. “Marcelo was always someone who invested more because he felt he was going to produce more and thus achieve what it had achieved”, they argue. And so, Tinelli thought of making bets to grow the legacy. The problem is when the bets are unsuccessful.
Basketball history also ended in rivalries. In his resignation letter, Tinelli broke down the titles won: “the return to the National Basketball League, 5 National titles, 2 American Championships, 2 games against NBA teams (unpublished Argentine basketball event)” . But they blame him for leaving a debt to FIBA of 400 thousand dollars that he has almost lost touch with. On the businessman’s side they acknowledge this, although they argue that it can be canceled by taking it from the documented debt the driver has at the club, which – according to his environment- is worth 8 million dollars.

This is another sensitive issue: San Lorenzo’s debt to Marcelo Tinelli. On the businessman’s side, they emphatically asserted that he withdrew a total of more than 25 million dollars from his pocket, including economic contributions and donations made such as pensions, two synthetic grass fields, youth building, locker room, the press room, the administrative offices, the official box.
In that figure, they explained that the verified was approximately 8 million foreign currency. However, according to opposition sources who met with Matías Lammens a few months ago, there was talk that the debt to Tinelli would not exceed “4 million dollars.” The difference is too big.
Some cunning laughs escaped from the current manager when asked about the total number close to the MT claim he paid. Very clearly, despite his farewell (he is still waiting for a formal resignation to be approved), many on the Board of Directors expect, the tension has not eased. and the relationship between the entrepreneur and a large part of the leadership is very difficult.
