River Plate As soon as “shield” TO Franco Mastantuono, his most recent jewel and a very young promise who is already shining in the First Team led by Martín Demichelis. The 16-year-old midfielder has signed a contract renewal until 2026 with a 45 million dollar clause, the most expensive in the history of Argentine football. As part of the 1st International Football Congress for Inclusion and Development, River Plate and the River Foundation presented Promisesa campaign that seeks to make visible a big problem in children’s and youth sport: the pressure that young athletes usually receive from their clubs, coaches and families.
The campaign aims to promote conversation on the topic, reflect and address it to contribute to a cultural change in which the protection of children’s rights prevails. It will work with different formats and actions to provide tools to clubs and athletes’ families.
The message is addressed, first of all, to the River Plate community, to the families and coaches of athletes of all disciplines; but because it is a social problemit is produced so that different clubs can take the campaign and apply it in their clubs.
During the presentation, on behalf of the River Plate Atlético Club, Jorge BritoPresident; Ignacio Villaroel2nd Vice President; Chiara D’OnofrioPresident of the River Plate Foundation; and Alejandro “Chori” Dominguez e Juan Pablo Sorinformer professional players.
At the meeting, underlined Jorge Brito: “From the beginning of the campaign the Club decided to make it an institutional issue, understanding that the problem is of vital importance and that River must be a model club in its approach to the social role it plays. From the Club and River Foundation we take on the first commitment. Now we also invite other sports clubs and associations to take part in this campaign and to positively involve families in the educational and training process of boys and girls.”
For his part, Alexander chori Dominguezhe added: “We must give the necessary importance to emotions from childhood.because the athlete is training to make a career, that’s why we need to work on him from a young age and enhance the environment.”
Furthermore, Clara D’Onofrio highlighted: “This campaign is very important because it means continuing to work with families, neighborhood clubs and sports, aiming to generate behavioral changes that serve to promote a healthy relationship between the parties. Furthermore, we aim to bring it throughout the national territory with our School of Trainers and Without Borders work on the topic in all the places where we are present”.
To conclude, Delfina Pignatello was invited, a former Argentine swimmer and current director of Virgen Film, who directed the campaign together with Mercado McCann, who declared: “Having lived sport and club life since I was very young and the external demands of this high-performance sport, I am happy to join this project to bring this healthy and positive message to those who are open to listening to it.”
The River Plate Foundation has been working for 10 years promoting the integral development of girls, boys and adolescents living in situations of social vulnerability through educational, sporting and social programmes, promoting the values of sport in search of greater social integration.
