Jannick Sinner continues his almost perfect 2024: he stopped Machac and reached the semi-final of the Miami Masters 1,000

Jannik Sinner remains intractable. The Italian advanced to the semifinals of Miami Masters 1000 beating the Czechs 6-4 and 6-2 Tomas Machac60th and one of the great surprises of the competition, and reached the semi-finals of a tournament in this category for the seventh time in his career.

The world number three added his twentieth victory of 2024 in which he suffered just one defeat, in the semi-final Indian wells in view of Carlos Alcaraz. A statistic that places him in a special group and that predicts a great future for him. Because he became the seventh player to win at least 20 of his first 21 games in a season since 2000 and the other six who did so became No. 1 in the rankings, Lleyton Hewitt, Andrea Agassi, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic AND Rafael Nadal.

Sinner, the second favorite of the competition, entered the best team in Miami for the third time. That example came in 2021, when he lost the final to the Pole Hubert Hurkaczand last year, when he also fell in the duel for the title Daniel Medvedev. At 22 years and 223 days, he is the youngest player to reach that round three times in this tournament, improving his score by Jim Courierwho did it at 23 years and 214 days.

In addition to the three occasions in Florida, the Italian also played in the semi-finals of Indian Wells, Montecarlo AND toronto (he was champion) in 2023 and this season also in the Californian desert.

This Wednesday gave Machac no chance, who was confident after surprising in the second round Andrei Rublev (6th) and winning a great match against Andy Murray, former world number one, at his third presentation. With 16 winners, just four unforced errors and four breaks for and one against, Jannik sealed the victory in just one hour and 31 minutes.

From the duel that will be played at the end of the day (not before 9.30pm in Argentina), his next rivals will emerge: Medvedev, third favourite, and the Chilean Nicholas Jarry22nd seed.

The quarter-final duels will end this Thursday, on a day that will begin at 2pm with the clash between the Germans Alexander Zverev (4th) and Hungarian Fabian Marozsanthe big surprise of the race, and will continue at 8pm with the duel between the Spanish Alcaraz, great favourite, and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (11th).

On the other hand, even if the tournament ended very quickly without Argentine representatives in the singles, in the doubles semi-finals there will be the Albiceleste. Why Horace Zeballos is Spanish Marcel Granollers, the fourth seed, beat the British Lloyd Glasspool and the Dutch Jean-Julien Rojer 7-6 (7-4), 3-6 and 12-10 in the quarterfinals. Now a place in the final will be played against the big favourite, the Indian team Rohan Bopanna and the Australian Matthew Ebden.

Collins, in the semifinals for the second time

The American Daniel Collins advanced to the semifinals WTA 1000 in Miami for the second time beating the French 6-3 and 6-2 Carolina Garcia. In that case wait for the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova16th in the rankings, i.e. her compatriot Jessica Pegulafive in the world.

Collin, 53rd in the world ranking, had reached this stage of the tournament for the first time in 2018, when she lost to the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.
