Meeting at the convention in Istanbul, Turkey, on the sideline of the Women’s World Championships, members of the International Boxing Association (IBA) announced on Wednesday the opening of an investigation into Boxing Canada following allegations of favoritism against the former high performance director. Daniel Trépanier.
Boxing Canada will be invited to a hearing on its practices in connection with this investigation, aimed at protect members of the boxing community in relation to IBA policies on harassment and abuse.
IBA also announced the opening of a disciplinary measure against Boxing Canada, without further details.
The international federation revoked Daniel Trépanier’s accreditation for the Istanbul world even before he submitted his resignation to Boxing Canada.
Many athletes called for his departure in an open letter and recounted how the high-performing director, according to them, had hindered the development of their careers, especially through his discretionary choices in Olympic selections.
Daniel Trépanier did not respond to the allegations made against him.
