Calgary came in third with a deficit of a goal after Jason Robertson scored in the middle period.

Backlund and Mangiapane scored in less than four minutes and the hosts no longer looked to the 3-2 series lead.

Trevor Lewis pushed the final nail into the Stars coffin by scoring on an empty net.

Jake Oettinger, who allowed just six goals in the first four games, was once again solid on goal for the Stars. He stopped 29 of 31 shots in the direction of his goal.

Jacob Markstrom, who allowed five goals in the first four games, was almost perfect. He stopped 20 shots in the win.

The Stars will face elimination on Friday when the two clubs meet in Dallas.

Robertson, who led the Stars in regular season scoring with 41, scored his first goal in the playoffs. His shot was blocked by Markstrom, but the return bounced off defenseman Chris Tanev before falling behind the Flames goaltender.

The Flames tied the game when Backlund redirected Mangiapane’s pass into the gaping cage.

The latter placed himself in front after a few moments with a loud bang of the wrist from the top of the facing circles.
