Hayley Wickenheiser to be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame

Hayley Wickenheiser will be part of Canada’s 2022 Sports Hall of Fame along with kayaker Adam van Koeverden, soccer player Dwayne de Rosario, lacrosse player John Tavares and para-swimmer Tim McIsaac .

Hayley Wickenheiser has competed in the Olympic Games six times and won four gold medals, an unprecedented achievement that has contributed to the development of women’s hockey in the country.

The 43-year-old former athlete from Saskatchewan was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019.

He remains the best hockey player in Canadian team history with 379 points, including 168 goals, in 276 games. That’s 88 points more than any other player.

She is referred to as Wayne Gretzky of women’s hockey.

Other inductees in the builder category include commentator Brian Williams, Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) President Tricia Smith and Edward Lennie, the father of the Northern Games.

The Chatham Colored All-Stars baseball team and the Preston Rivulettes women’s hockey team will also be fielded as trailblazers.

The Rivulettes won 10 Ontario championship titles between 1930 and 1941, in addition to five Eastern Canadian championship titles and five Dominion championships.

The team was disbanded in 1941 during World War II, players were forced into arms factories, and unable to move due to fuel rationing.
