A court decision has ruled recently that the president of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio Chiqui Tapia, remains in charge of the Professional Football League (LPF) until the end of the term of resigned Marcelo Tinelli. That means that the strong man of Barracas Central is the governing body that governs the First Division of football until March 2024.

In this resolution, the former is void, with Tapia being placed in charge of the LPF for 90 days, with a mandate to call elections within that time.

This happened after Tinelli announced his departure from the Puerto Madero offices and called for elections that would initially have three candidates. They are Cristian Malaspina (Argentinos Juniors), Mario Leito (Atlético Tucumán) and Sergio Rapisarda (Vélez Sarsfield). However, only the list led by the president of the La Paternal club was presented, which was eventually challenged by the television host and businessman.

Marcelo Tinelli also resigned in San Lorenzo.

The resolution adopted on Thursday by Civil Court No. 99 extended the term under which the AFA would have to guarantee the operation of the Professional League until the third month of 2024 and in this way Tapia would consolidate control over all Argentine soccer. It is the end of the famous “double command” that has been questioned by various fields of national leadership that has been implemented since the birth of the now defunct Superliga.

The decision of Judge Camilo Almeida Pons indicated that “the term established by Superior in the resolution of April 6, 2022 has been extended until the expiration of the mandate of the current valid authority of the Board of Directors of the Argentine Professional Soccer League”.

On April 30, when his license expired, Tinelli also resigned from the presidency of San Lorenzo, although he has not yet made it official within the club.
