The 34-year-old hockey player had to be out of work because of knee surgery last summer and because he voluntarily signed up for the NHL assistance program at the beginning of last October.

Each of the 32 teams submitted a nomination that was picked up by local chapter hockey columnists, who then made Price one of three finalists.

He is in contention with New York Islanders defender Zdeno Chara and Philadelphia Flyers center Kevin Hayes.

At age 45, Chara is the oldest player in the league this season, while Hayes has suffered multiple injuries.

Since 1968, the Bill-Masterton Trophy, named in memory of a former Minnesota North Stars player who died on January 15, 1968 following an injury sustained in a game, has been awarded annually to the player who has shown the best example of determination, perseverance and sportsmanship in hockey.

Five Habs players have already registered their names: Max Pacioretty (2011-2012), Saku Koivu (2001-2002), Serge Savard (1978-1979), Henri Richard (1973-1974) and Claude Provost (1967-1968. ), who was the very first winner.
