On a very hot day, where the thermometer marked 34 degrees in the atmosphere and 47 on the track, the championship leader, who was the fastest in three training sessions between Friday and Saturday, had to recover after a failed attempt. in the first lap in Q3 that ended in a round on Turn 15.
On his second attempt, when the clock was ticking, Monegasque flew aboard his Ferrari and needed 1: 18.750 to cover 4,675 meters of track located in Montmeló, 20 kilometers north of Barcelona. This way, he retained his fourth pole this season.
“The session was very difficult, especially in Q3, where I made a mistake. I did just one lap, the car ran smoothly and I was in pole position. I was in a very good starting position, but in the last races we had problems with the tires, so we had to manage them properly to fight for victory ”, highlighted Leclerc.
With him in the front row will begin his tournament escort, Max Verstappen, who after setting a time of 1: 19.073 on his first quick lap ran out of power to his Red Bull and could not fight every inch with Leclerc. “I had problems with the DRS in the last lap and lost strength, but we still achieved a good goal. It is difficult to pass this circuit, we hope that our vehicles respond well”, analyzed the world champion.
