Emma Raducanu, 12th in the world and champion of the United States Open in 2021, was eliminated on Wednesday in the second round of the Belarusian’s Roland-Garros under the neutral banner Aliaksandra Sasnovich (47th), 3-6 , 6-1, 6- 1.
The 19-year-old Briton is making his Parisian grand slam debut and is only playing in the fourth major tournament of his career.
The previous confrontation between the two players, at Indian Wells in October 2021, has already resulted in victory for Belarus.
In the next round, Sasnovich will face the winner of the duel between German Angélique Kerber and Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot.
This morning, Canadians Leylah-Annie Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu will try to reach the third round. If they win their match today, the two will meet in the third round.
Bianca Andreescu will face Olympic champion Belinda Bencic on the court of Philippe Chatrier. This will be the second duel between the two players. Andreescu won the semi-final of the United States Open against Switzerland in 2019.
For her part, Fernandez will face doubles specialist Katerina Siniakova. The Czech is ranked 56th in singles in the WTA. The two players face each other for the first time.
