He had no rivals. In the photo of the arrival at the checkered flag, the silhouette of the Renault appeared alone. The overwhelming advantage over the stock meant that Leonel Pernía did not suffer any shocks to take victory at the 5th round of the TC2000, at the Termas de Río Hondo racetrack.
Even at the beginning, which the TC2000 keeps the custom of the game still, it was not a problem for Pernía. He started from pole position and already in the first few meters he had all his opponents inside the rear-view mirrors.
In that initial maneuver, the one who stood out was Agustín Canapino, who accelerated the Chevrolet to overtake Ignazio Montenegro and come in second place. This maneuver seemed like a problem for the leader, as a great duel was promised for the top of the competition.

But it wasn’t like that. Pernía, with 10 kilos less than his rival, product of the ballast system that the category adopted this year (questioned by the same champion, Canapino, and also challenged by the winner in Termas), was unattainable.
With such a walk of the former monarch of the category, the eyes settled back. That there was a bit of everything in a race that will not remain in the memory.
Mattia Milla, Pernía’s teammate, took third place, leaving Montenegro himself behind. The young driver of the former Renault team had friction with another driver of new blood: Giorgito Barrio.
Giuliano Santero, who, beyond the potential that his Toyota Corolla could reach, decided to join the championship. And the one who suffered the abandonment in the first meters was Facundo Ardusso, enthusiastic about the potential of his Honda Civic.

As a balance, perhaps the excellent Termas racetrack seemed too much for the spectacle offered by the TC2000. Maybe the mixture of chili and Push-to-Pass it does not allow to keep the cars grouped to generate better overtaking maneuvers. However, the reversed grid for the Sprint (Fabián Yannantuoni won on Saturday with Honda) offers the possibility for most of the teams to get at least one good result.
The next appointment will be in a place known to all: the Oscar Cabalén racetrack, in the province of Córdoba, on 3 July. An opportunity for recovery for many, as it is the test track for most of the teams.
Can Termas de Río Hondo receive F1?
Carlos Bertrand, Circuit Inspector of the International Automobile Federation, spent the weekend at the Termas de Río Hondo racetrack in Santiago del Estero.
The FIA delegate expressed: “From my point of view, the only circuit to receive Formula 1 is the Autodromo Internacional de Termas de Río Hondo. I think nothing is missing. Another thing is to have a Grade 1 license. . If Termas wanted to have F1, he would have his driving license in 10 days. “
In addition, Bertrand explained to Carburando the difference between Grade 1 and Grade 2 of the FIA. “The votes are given for safety measures, not for a splendid press room, not for a VIP area and a large Paddock, which Termas has. The inspection is given for the active and passive safety measures of the circuit”.
“If IndyCar wants to come tomorrow, get off the boat and race here, no problem,” said Bertrand. In the last edition of the Indy 500, the governor of Santiago, Gerardo Zamora, was in Indianapolis and met the authorities of the category, with the intention of bringing the North American single-seater category to the Termas circuit.
