Spain won and took the lead of the A2 group of the League of Nations. Yes, this Sunday the team led by Luis Enrique won 2-0 against the Czech Republic. But they managed to climb to the top of their zone thanks to the 1-0 defeat of Portugal, without Cristiano Ronaldo, in Switzerland.

In a duel in which he went less and more and which frightened the Czechs in the first part, the Spanish team kept the three points for goals from Carlos Soler on 24 minutes and Pablo Sarabia with 15 remaining time. the end.

“We are leaders after these four games, we tried to get most of the players to participate and in general the national team was good. We were not inferior to the others,” said Luis Enrique at a press conference after the victory in The Rose Garden.

“The rival has not only shown that he can defend very well closed in his field, but he also knows how to press high,” he added about this Sunday’s game. In fact, in Malaga his Spain began to suffer and Unai Simón prevented the Czechs from climbing the rankings with excellent saves from shots by Vaclav Cerny, Jan Kutcha and Jakub Pesek.

But it was Spain who hit and were effective on a deep pass from Koke to Marco Asensio, who put a cross into the heart of the box for Carlos Soler for the 1-0. Since then the Spaniards have become masters of the ball and have had the best chances. Until they solved the duel with a great collective game that culminated with a shot by Sarabia, author of the goal that last Thursday gave Spain the victory against Switzerland.

Switzerland, which had lost the first three games of this competition, took advantage of the fact that coach Fernando Santos rested some of his stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Moutinho and Raphaël Guerreiro, to beat Portugal 1-0.

Haris Seferovic put the Swiss ahead in the first minute of play and things stayed that way thanks largely to the brilliant performance of Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, who on many occasions prevented the Portuguese from scoring. Danilo Pereira, André Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Gonçalo Guedes and Diogo Jota all had their chances but ran into rival goalkeeper, the great figure.

“We would have preferred to continue leading the group, but I have always said that the decisive match will be against Spain,” said Portuguese coach Fernando Santos, who lamented the defeat. “We cannot receive a goal after thirty seconds of play, on a ball that belonged to us. It was our mistake,” he said.

With these results, then, Spain leads the group with 8 points, one more than Portugal (7). The Czech Republic remains with 4, one more than Switzerland (3). The last two days, in which the team that will play the “Final 4” and the one that will go down to League B will be decided, will be played in September.

In the rest of the categories, the highlights of League B were Norway’s 3-2 win over Sweden, with a brace from Erling Haaland, and the 2-2 draw between Slovenia and Serbia, in a match in which the guests they placed themselves with two lead goals.
