Without the overwhelming numbers of the other evenings, but with the usual magic for the important moments. Stephen Curry unlocked one of the lockers which remained in his career when he proclaimed himself MVP of the NBA Finals for the first timeafter concluding his fourth title with the Golden State Warriorssurpassing the Celts of Boston in the sixth game in the series.
This was the fourth ring for Golden State in the past eight years, but in the previous three Curry hasn’t won the Finals MVP: Andre Iguodala won it in 2015 and Kevin Durant in 2017 and 2018. In fact, that number of titles he joined the trio that completes Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, allowed him to equalize Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobiliin the most rings for three teammates in the last 50 years.
“At the beginning of the season no one thought we would be here, in this place, except all of us who are now on the playing field”Curry summed up what this win meant for the San Francisco franchise, which overtook the Chicago Bulls with its seventh championship, also well behind the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers (17).
It was 34 points for the Golden Boy on his magical night at Celtics Garden, where he celebrated to tears surrounded by his family. In the entire series of the NBA Finals he finished with an average of 31.2 points, 5.2 triples, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in six games.
Of those goals scored on Thursday night, there were six, specifically two from three, which sparked a quick reaction on social media: the first came in the second quarter, when he made a turn behind the goal at the back of the field and, as he adjusted his iconic mouth design, he crushed spectacularly from the sideline.
The second play was in the third quarter and he scored a triple from another galaxy, at a key moment in the game, to look defiantly at Boston fans and point with his right hand where he would place his. fourth ring as NBA champion.
Curry led the Warriors as the brightest star on the way back to the Olympus of American basketball.
