We refuse to spend additional judicial resources and continue to put victims in a difficult position because the issues in dispute are at least an academic exercise.written by the court in a two -page document.

More than 150 victims testified or submitted statements at an extraordinary seven -day hearing before Judge Aquilina.

Larry Nassar has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting gymnasts and other athletes with his hands while allegedly offering hip and leg treatments. He has worked for many years at Michigan State University and at USA Gymnastics facilities in Indianapolis, in addition to teaching top athletes around the world.

Our Constitution does not allow harsh or unusual punishment, the judge said. After what he did to those beautiful souls, you young women, I probably allowed one or more people to do to him what he did to others.

Nassar also received another 40-year sentence in another independent case in a neighboring country.

He was incarcerated for child pornography crimes in another case coming out of the same investigation. These sentences mean the 58-year-old will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
