The Snapchat social network is working to develop a subscription system that offers exclusive benefits to users who pay for it.
Named Snapchat Plus, this subscription will allow access to certain development features before the rest of the public as well as some exclusive options, with the goal of allowing Snapchat tolearn more about how [desservir sa] community
The news was confirmed to The Verge (New window) by Snapchat spokesperson Liz Markman, but it was first reported on Twitter by social media whistleblower Alessandro Paluzzi. The latter also announced some of the exclusive features reserved for people who subscribe to Snapchat Plus.
This includes the option to pin a conversation, which will define it as a conversation with his best friend or his best friend. It will also offer the ability to customize the app icon displayed on the device’s home screen, as well as the option to view the movement history of contacts who activated geolocation in the last day.
Snapchat, however, has not officially confirmed that these features will be part of the initial subscription plan, which has no expected launch date yet.
An imitation of Twitter
Snapchat isn’t the first social network to enter subscriptions. Last year, Twitter released Twitter Blue, which notably lets you preview a tweet and gather threads of tweets to read them into a text.
For its part, Telegram has already announced that a subscription service called Telegram Premium will be launched later in 2022.
These services allow social networks to increase their revenues, which decrease annually due to restrictions and tools put in place by phone providers to remove ads that appear on applications.
Snapchat also blamed Apple in October for its historic decline in revenue, which the social network attributed to the new advertising processing functionality of the phones made by the American giant.
