The Girona Sunday marked the promotion to the first division of the Spanish football league, beating Tenerife 3-1 as a guest in the playoff final. But what was the joy and happiness for this small Catalan town of 100,000 inhabitants, which almost ended in tragedy when a woman was about to fall off the bus during the consecration celebrations.
It is the second promotion to the first in the history of Girona, which was first in a first phase for two seasons (2017-2018 and 2018-2019).
Before winning the last impulse of the ‘playoffs’, they had beaten Eibar in the semifinals of the playoffs, while Tenerife had excluded neighboring Las Palmas.

Girona will thus accompany the two teams that have signed their promotion automatically, as the first and second of the season of the Spanish second division, Almería and Valladolid.
These three teams will replace in the elite the three relegated to second place after the last season of LaLiga, Granada, Levante and Alavés.
It almost didn’t end in tragedy
As expected, the city of Girona celebrated “in style” the consecration to the playoffs and the possibility of reuniting with Real Madrid, Barcelona and the giants of the League. And he received as heroes the leaders of this sporting enterprise.
An open-top bus toured the streets of Girona (as it is known in Catalan), with all the footballers receiving the affection of the inhabitants. However, beyond the excitement of such an event, a scene from that journey quickly went viral on the networks for what could have been a tragedy.
It is that the vehicle slipped along a path crashing into the branches of a tree, without taking into account that in the head there were the players with part of the club’s team of assistants, including a photographer who by chance did not end up falling from the ‘high against the sidewalk.
In the video you can see that one person grabs her foot just as she fell, and another manages to grab her other leg, completing the agonizing rescue. Disturbed by the situation, a group of police officers approached the place to check that the woman was okay, making angry gestures at the driver’s inattention. It was just a scare.
