Five restaurants. A bar. A supermarket. And a stadium suitable for basketball, tennis and American football, thanks to an investment of seven hundred million euros. Real Madrid made a transcendental decision in difficult times. First, he got into debt, when no one else got into debt. And then, for a while, he moved home, a long-term bet in times of absolute immediacy. But, four years later, the results are in sight.

It all started during the pandemic, when the public could not enter the stadiums and European football was resumed. It was there that Real Madrid decided to remodel the legendary Santiago Bernabéu.

Today, almost four years after the approval by the Compromising Shareholders’ Meeting of the loan request to finance the project, the works are about to end. It is that what is being prepared is unprecedented in the history of football. Still working on the big one White Colosseumas they chose to call it in Spain.

Since the end of the 2019-20 Liga and throughout the 2020-21 season, Merengue has played its matches at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, home to the matches of the women’s team and the men’s branch.

After 560 days, the first part of the reform ended in September 2021 and they were able to return to play at the Bernabéu. What was done during that time was not the most spectacular, but it was vital for what is to come.

  • Towers B and C were demolished and replaced by the more modern ones, which also support the new roof, which replaced the old one.
  • Some mega structures weighing over 2,000 tons were then mounted on the sides to act as a support for the roof, one of the main attractions that the new stadium will have.
  • Among other majestic anticipations, as reported by Diario Marca, a spectacular carpet was installed by the Tapiz Verde company, requested by the most powerful countries in Europe.

The last work should be ready by the end of the year. and among its main innovations is the implementation of a system of retractable lawn, which would allow for storage and the stadium could be used for a wide variety of events without damaging the playing field. For this, the weed trays will be stored one under the other.

The investment is 700 million eurosincludes covered stalls, sophisticated irrigation systems, LED lighting and ventilation chambers, and it is estimated that they will recovering between 150 and 200 million per season.

Another of the big changes will be in the gastronomic offer. There will be five restaurants open every day with a view of the playing field, a Sky Bar and a kind of supermarket, in addition to viewers will be able to order food from their seats via an app.

As if that were not enough, in recent days a video has been released showing the stadium divided in two, with solid but removable structures, for host tennis and basketball matches. Perhaps, now, the dream of creating a public record exhibition between Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer could be possible. It was also intended as a setting for NFL football games.

“The Bernabéu is one of the emblematic icons of the city and we want to make it one of the best stadiums in the world”the president said Florentino Perez when he presented the project. The dream of transforming the Coliseum de la Castellana into the Colosseum of Soccer is in progress and there are only a few months left to make it happen.
