Formula 1, LIVE: Austrian Grand Prix, Leclerc beat Verstappen at the start, minute by minute

40th lap. Vettell touches Gasly at turn 4 and is lost. He assures that the French did not leave him enough space. The German quickly returns to the track, but the track is a bit dirty. However, the race does not stop. The incident is being investigated.

37th round. Verstappen returns to the pits and mounts new hard tires. The Dutchman comes back third, behind the Ferraris. Will the Red Bull driver be able to pick up the pace from the start and take back the lead?

Most drivers find it difficult to keep their cars within the confines of the track. Some have already been penalized for going off the track. And many others, including Leclerc, Verstappen and Sainz, have two caveats. The sanction comes to the third.

32nd round. Leclerc, with the fastest car on the grid, steals the lead from Verstappen at turn 3 and the Red Bull driver doesn’t offer much resistance.

“One lap I have front grip, another I don’t … The car is very unpredictable. It’s crazy”, complained Verstappen to his team.

31st lap. All the drivers have already stopped once in the pits. Verstappen is leading with more than two seconds over Leclerc, who with his new tires still has an excellent pace and is starting to get closer and closer to the Dutchman. Sainz is third. To complete the top 10 Hamilton, who lost some positions after a slow pit stop but recovered, Ocon, Magnussen, Schumacher, Norris, Russell and Ricciardo.

Red Bull has only one car on the track. Pérez was unable to recover from contact with Russell in the first lap and ends up leaving.

28th lap. Sainz also enters and Verstappen is first. The Dutchman now drives with Sainz and Mercedes as an escort and Sainz a little further behind in fourth place.

27th lap. Leclerc returns to the pits and Sainz inherits the command. The Monegasque returns to third place, behind the Spaniard and Verstappen and just ahead of Hamilton, who runs for third place.

23rd lap. Verstappen, the only one of the top seven to have already made a pit stop, remains the driver with the best pace on the track. But the Dutch, who holds the lap record, is still unable to attack the Ferraris, which are still comfortable. Leclerc leads with more than four seconds ahead of Sainz. And the Spaniard took just over ten from Red Bull.

Lap 18. In a battle between world champions, Verstappen overtakes Hamilton on the outside of the straight, using the DRS, and is third. The Dutchman, with fresh hard tires, will go hunting for Ferraris.

Lap 17. Verstappen is catching up. The Dutchman is already fourth and is only four tenths behind Hamilton, third. In front of the Ferraris of Leclerc and Sainz.

Russell, who was given a 5-second penalty for touching Perez on lap one, served that penalty when he pitted and is 18th.

13th round. Verstappen returns to the pits for the tire change – “I don’t know how long they will last”, he had warned shortly before – and falls in eighth place. Leclerc is now escorted by his teammate Sainz. Behind appear Ocon Magnussen and Hamilton, who with a great maneuver overtakes Schumacher.

12th round. Leclerc’s pressure paid off. The Monegasque enters the inside at turn 4 and, with an impeccable maneuver, takes the lead from Verstappen. And the Ferrari driver presses the accelerator when he takes the lead and begins to widen the gap.

10th lap. Verstappen and Leclerc add excitement and tension to the race. The Monegasque, who has a better pace, is less than 5 tenths of a second from the Dutch and does not release the pressure. He looks for DRS in every corner and in every area. But that of Red Bull resists, for now, and follows first.

“The straight speed he has is insane,” Hamilton radioed to his team. The Briton fails to get close to Magnussen and Schumacher’s Haas and remains in eighth position, the position from which he started.

6th lap. Verstappen is still in the lead, but he glued Leclerc to his Red Bull. The Monegasque, with his lap record, is the fastest on the track right now and is less than a second behind the Dutchman. Soon after, Sainz, Russell, Ocon, Magnussen, Schumacher, Hamilton, Norris and Ricciardo appear.

“You saw him well, right? He didn’t leave me the competition space. I left him enough space”, complains Pérez, about the contact with Russell. The race officials are investigating the incident.

The race has started! Verstappen defended the lead well and took a small lead over Leclerc. A little behind, Sainz resisted pressure from Russell, who tried to steal third place from him. In that fight, the Briton in the Mercedes touches Ssergio Pérez, who gets lost, without damaging his Red Bull, and returns to the track, but is last.

The previous round is already underway in Spielberg. Valtteri Bottas will start from the pit lane after modifying the aerodynamic configuration of his Alfa Romero.

A few minutes before the start, the Mercedes mechanics were racing, working on the brakes of Hamilton’s car and there was concern in the garage of the German team. In the end, the problem was quickly resolved and the seven-time world champion managed to reach the starting line in time.

The drivers are already in their cars and everything is ready to start the previous lap in a few minutes.

The Red Bull driver, leader of the championship, will be at the top of the starting grid, followed by the Ferraris of Monegasque Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, winner of the last round in Great Britain, two of the greatest threats for the reigning champion this season .

The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg receives the Austrian Grand Prix, the 11th round of the Formula 1 world championship. Dutch Max Verstappen, who is one of the biggest historical winners of this race with three wins, will start from pole and will try repeat last year’s celebration.
