The cry of the defender. Roncaglia celebrates a goal in Libertadores.
Boca Juniors closed their second reinforcement this Sunday after the arrival of former Banfield Martín Payero. is approx Facundo Roncaglia, who will return to the club at the age of 35 to bolster a defense that will soon lose Carlos Izquierdoz. The seasoned defender will return to the Ribera club after ten seasons. His last match was in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final that Boca, led by Julio César Falcioni, lost to Corinthians after a threat of retirement from Juan Román Riquelme in full short circuit with president Daniel Angelici.
Roncaglia, who has already studied medicine and will sign with Boca for 18 months, comes from a long trip abroad. He started at Xeneize and from there, very young, he was transferred to Espanyol de Barcelona. From there he returned to Argentina to play in Estudiantes and his good performances opened the doors to him again at Boca, where he had excellent performances that led him to be a key player in Falcioni’s team.

After that first final against Corinthians, in which he scored the only goal of Boca, and with the contract expired, Roncaglia did not reach the agreement to dispute the rematch because he had all the credentials to reach Fiorentina from Italy. In July 2012, the Chajarí-born defender explained that “the insurance” they offered him to play “was a burden” and that “they wanted to ruin everything”. The sticks went to Angelici, at the time boss of Boca, also in contrast with Riquelme.
“If the same thing happened to me as Agustín Orion (the goalkeeper suffered a rupture of the lateral ligament of his left knee), I was without a contract and who paid me everything”, Roncaglia wondered in those stormy days.
Then he was also terse with his coach and praised who will now be his boss as manager of the Football Council: “Better not to mention Falcioni. The one who behaved as he is, a great captain, was (Juan Román) Riquelme. He was very nice to me and made me get on the plane to go to Sao Paulo with the team. “
So he went to Fiorentina, where he established himself in Serie A. There, at football, he also played for Genoa. He then moved to Spain, where he played for Celta, Valencia and Osasuna. Last season he played for Aris Limassol in Cyprus, where he was just released. In the meantime, he defended the colors of the Argentine national team and was part of the squad that played in the 2015 Copa América.
