The technical director of laboratories, Pietro Caixinha, he anticipated it a couple of days before the match which remained in the background: “the battle of Fortín”, he said and he was not mistaken. The Portuguese did not foresee the incidents in the stands, but the way in which he interpreted the match against Velez corresponds to what happened in terms of violence.
The President of the Sports Safety Council of Córdoba (COSEDEPRO), Marcelo Frossascohas ordered a ban on the visiting public in advance for Wednesday’s match and will order an operation to identify Vélez fans.
The immediate consequence is therefore the disqualification of the visiting supporters at Mario Kempes when Fortín travels to Córdoba on Wednesday to define the passage to the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, after 3-2 in the first leg. The reaction of the Córdoba Security Agency is to prevent the obvious: that the most radicalized of the public in Córdoba return to those of Vélez the beating given to Liniers.
In the afternoon, the club will determine how Vélez fans who have already purchased tickets for the match will get back the money invested.
But it does not end there: the president of Talleres, Andrés Fassi, has announced that he will present to Conmebol a document that establishes a possible “liberated zone” in the grandstand that Vélez has designated for the public who entered with the protocol tickets.
Apart from the presentation of the Workshops, in the face of episodes of this type, Conmebol does not expect the injured party to issue an injunction: it does so ex officio and quickly. This is why it is expected that in the next few hours the Buenos Aires club will be summoned by Paraguay to give its version of what happened to consider an economic and closure sanction.
