Former Colombian soccer player Freddy Rincon (55), one of the coffee soccer glories and executioner of the Argentine National Team in the Qualifiers for the 1994 World Cup in the United States, fought for his life after suffering a traffic accident on the streets of Cali that resulted in him a “severe head trauma”.
“We would like to inform, with prior authorization from the family, that Freddy Rincón entered the clinic as a victim of a severe head injury. His conditions are critical,” Laureano Quintero, the medical chief of the Imbanaco Clinic, said. at a press conference, where he went. rushed after the violent collapse.
Rincón, who has played three World Cups with Colombia, will undergo surgery. His prognosis is being monitored.

Although traffic authorities have not yet taken charge, local media has published photos of a security camera that will record the shocking accident.
Rincón’s vehicle collided with a bus around 4:30 a.m. in the southern part of the city. At least five people were injured, including Rincón and the bus driver, who were in stable condition, according to a preliminary report provided by the Cali Mayor’s Office.
“We are not sure who is driving the truck, we believe that due to the impact the former soccer player was a co-driver,” Edwing Candelo, the undersecretary for mobility of Cali, told the press.
According to the official, the driver of the public transport gave a negative breathalyzer test and is making progress on investigations into the causes of the road accident. Authorities are examining security cameras and as a hypothesis they are thinking of possible speeding or a violation of non -stop at a red traffic light.

A midfielder in his playing days, Rincón participated in the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups. His most memorable goal for the coffee team was his score against West Germany to seal a 1-1 draw that earned him qualification for the round of 16. He was also one of the figures in Colombia’s 5-0 win against Argentina at the Monumental that pushed Coco Basile’s team to the playoffs against Australia to reach the United States.
He has also played for Napoli in Italy, Real Madrid in Spain, Palmeiras and Corinthians in Brazil and Colombian América de Cali.
