In a duel of teams competing to escape from the last positions of the average rankings, Sarmiento will receive Godoy Cruz this afternoon in the match that will open the 14th date of the Professional Soccer League. The duel will be played at the Eva Perón stadium in Junín from 4:30 pm, directed by Patricio Loustau and broadcast by TNT Sports.
Although there are still 14 games missing to define the two descents in the First National team, the fight for the permanence is already beginning to worry some teams, including Sarmiento, which occupies the 24th place in the average ranking (two of which Aldosivi and Patronato) and Godoy Cruz, which is one step below.
The Juninense cast will be defeated in this clash as in their latest presentation they showed a very low level and were beaten 4 to 1 by the hurricane in Parque Patricios. To make matters worse, that match left a string of bad news for Israel Damonte, who will have to get his hands on the lineup.
Lucas Castro will not be able to play because he received his fifth yellow card against Huracán and will have to serve a date of disqualification. Also absent were captain Lisandro López (suffering from a muscle injury) and Jonatan Torres (dislocated left elbow). Meanwhile, Emiliano Méndez, who suffered a sprained right ankle against Balloonit will be infiltrated and therefore will give the present.
The Mendoza cast have just won another major match in the battle for permanence: they defeated the Aldosivi 2-0 at the Malvinas Argentinas, thus cutting a streak of four winless appearances. The other good news for Sergio Gómez-Favio Orsi is that the whole squad is available for Tuesday’s match.
Sarmiento and Godoy Cruz will meet again in Junín after almost six years, since the last match on Buenos Aires soil in November 2016, when they drew 2-2. The last precedent was in September last year in Mendoza with a draw. 1 to 1 for the Professional League. Godoy Cruz has never lost to Sarmiento in the First Division.
