Argentine tennis was inundated this Tuesday in a deep pain after confirmation of the death of Tiago Alomar, a 17-year-old who was on the rise and trying to gain a foothold in the sport. The man from Entre Ríos was driving a truck through Gualeguay, his hometown, when lost control for the alleged presence of an animal on the road, which made him lose his way.
The episode took place in the early hours of the holiday Monday, although it happened about 24 hours later, when the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) confirmed the death of the young man, who among other clubs currently represented River Plate.

According to the testimonies of two other young people of the same age driving a dark gray Citroen C4, while they were crossing the pedestrian bridge of the Quintana Park, the Fiat Strada truck overtook them, left the gravel, hit a sewer ditch, gave a turn into the air and both Alomar and his partner – who sustained minor injuries – were thrown from the vehicle.
The young tennis player was transferred to the San Antonio hospital, where he suffered cardiorespiratory arrest due to a tracheal injury and a pneumothorax, which resulted in his death.

In his statement, the AAT stated that Alomar played the Minors and Interclubs circuit, where he represented River in the sub 18 category. He had arrived at the Núñez club in 2019 and continued today.
Also, weeks ago he won a Regional at Concordia in the doubles category. He finished fifth in Region 4 in his category, so he was one of the promises for his growth room in the sport.
In the post in which the AAT confirmed the painful news, Argentine tennis figures such as the current captain of the Davis Cup team William CoriaNadia Podoroska and Daniel Orsanic from Santa Fe sent their condolences.

The news also caused amazement in the Santa Fe community. Tiago Alomar was much loved by his colleagues at the Artoni Tennis Academy, located in Colastiné Norte, where he has been developing lately. The same thing happened at the Commercial School, where he studied at night after completing his education.
“Thiago was a charming boy with a unique energy. Very hardworking, disciplined and charismatic. All his colleagues loved him and it is a very important loss for the artonitenis family because he was an excellent person. His example will always remain in each of them. those of us who are part of this family ”, he pointed out Enzo Artenidirector of the Artoni Tennis Academy, in dialogue with the Aire de Santa Fe portal.

Several Alomar’s training companions were competing in the Cordova National G-1: some decided to withdraw from the competition and others to continue playing with the black belt as a sign of mourning.
