Ten Argentines finished first in the US Open 2022 rankings

azulene Frederic Delbonishero of the Davis Cup title that Argentina won in 2016, will face this Tuesday with the Zsombor Hungarian Piros through the initial qualifying round to enter the US Openfourth and final Grand Slam of the year which will be played in New York from 29 August, on a day in which nine other Argentine tennis players will perform, while six others will do it tomorrow.

Delbonis, born in the city of Azul and ranked 136th in the ATP world rankings, plays from 12 (now Argentina) against Piros (158), and if he beats him his next rival will be an American tennis player: Ernesto Escobedo (175) or Ethan Quinn (506).

The other Argentines who on this day will start their mission in search of winning three games and obtaining the precious ticket for the “main draw” will be Francisco Comesaña, Genaro Olivieri, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Thiago Tirante, Juan Pablo Ficovich, Santiago Rodríguez Taverna, Facundo Díaz Acosta, Juan Bautista Torres and Lourdes Carlé.

Meanwhile, the remaining six will play tomorrow: Facundo Bagnis, Renzo Olivo, Andrea Collarini, Marco Trungelliti, Nicolás Kicker and Facundo Mena.

Comesana (217) will face nationalized Cordovan Franco Agamemnon Italian (109) and if he surpasses it it will be Olivieri di Braga (227) or the Italian Roberto Marcora (598).

Ugo Carabelli (99) will play against the Turkish Altug Celikbilek (234) and if he overcomes it he will then go against the Dutch Jesper De Jong (212) or the French Antonine Escoffier (192).

Ficovich (128) will play against the German Mats Moraing (149) and if he defeats him later it will be the Italian Raúl Brancaccio (207) or the Teutonic Dominik Koepfer (159).

Rodríguez Taverna (160) will face the American Christopher Eubanks (147) and if he passes it will go further with the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (100) or the French Gregoire Barrere (167).

Díaz Acosta (228) will face Chilean Nicolás Jarry (120) and in case of overtaking he will be played by Juan Bautista Torres (237) or local Bjorn Frantángelo (216).

Among the ladies Carlé (175) will play against Austrian Sinja Kraus (209) and if he wins then he will have the Bulgarian Isabella Shinikova (211) or the Spanish Cristina Bucsa (119).

The Grand Slam of New York will raise the curtain next Monday with the presence of seven Argentine rackets entered directly: Diego Schwartzman (16), Francisco Cerúndolo (27), Sebastián Báez (37), Pedro Cachín (66), Federico Coria (78), Tomás Etcheverry (86) and Rosario Nadia Podoroskacurrently in box 190 but will use the protected ranking for being injured for almost a whole year.

The 2022 US Open edition will not have Serbian Novak Djokovic (6) for not being vaccinated against the coronavirus, but current world number one and title defender, Russian Daniil Medvedev, and Spanish super champion Rafael Nadal (3).

Among the women, the focus will be on Serena Williams, who will leave tennis at the age of 40 and with 23 Grand Slam titles behind her, and will also play the British Emma Raducanu, surprise champion in 2021.
