McLaren confirmed this Wednesday through a statement that the Australian rider Daniele Ricciardo He will leave the Formula 1 team at the end of the 2022 season.
The Australian joined the squad in 2021, with a contract until 2023, but both sides decided to end their relationship early, in a finale that seemed practically doomed, and Ricciardo will leave at the end of this campaign.
Among the driver’s highlights is last season’s victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
“It has been a privilege to be part of the McLaren Racing family for the past two seasons. I will announce my future plans in due course, but whatever this next chapter brings, I do not regret anything and I am proud of the effort and work I have given to McLaren, especially the victory at Monza, ”said the Australian.
Meanwhile, McLaren CEO Zak Brown said, “I would like to thank him for all his efforts over the past two seasons, both on the track and at the base. It’s no secret that we hoped we could accomplish more things together“.
Despite the shared challenges, he always showed himself with a fighting spirit and positivity and helped the whole team to always move forward. We will never forget that memorable victory in Monza ”, concluded Andreas Seidl, McLaren team principal.
