Pedro Troglio announced on Wednesday his resignation as coach of San Lorenzo after losing on Argentine Cup penalties against Racing of Cordoba. “The leaders asked me to continue until May, but that’s it: five games is an eternity. I have to apologize to the people,” he argued.

“I want to go to San Lorenzo, but not at any cost”detailed Troglio, who has only won one game in his time at the Boedo club.

This is the record of an announced end, as the fallout in San Luis can be felt when seeing the final weeks of a team that he didn’t find a way in the four months and 10 games he managed the azulgrana squad.

Troglio’s cycle, in the Professional League Cup, has had just one win, four draws and four losses, with 6 goals for and 10 against. Now this draw and elimination in the Copa Argentina has been added.

“The agreement was to wait until May, they asked me to continue, but as a coach I decided to step aside”, he says. There was talk of a possible resignation in the days before and even minutes before the game. On the field, the team did not respond and then lost meaning in the penalties. there is no going back. In the dressing room of La Punta stadium in San Luis, Troglio told players and managers that his cycle was over.

There are signs during the game and before the penalty shootout. Shouting, Troglio blocked his players from hitting at least one kick “they don’t advise anyone”. Also, when the 90 -minute regulation ended and the players rotated before the penalties to amuse each other, the technician did not participate in that ritual. The counterpart was Chiquito Bossio, the coach of Racing de Córdoba, who was in the round and also encouraged his players.

When the elimination was over, Troglio was the first to retire to the locker room. The uncertainty increased with all the time it took San Lorenzo to prepare to leave the stadium. Three leaders came in to chat with Troglio, then came out, talking on the phone Matthias Lammens and they returned to chat with the coach, but they could not convince him.

Now retreating an internship by Fernando Berón for the last five Professional League Cup matches. Meanwhile, Troglio –with an offer from the Panama National Team– announced that he would return “to see the family”.
