Other historical cases

There have been only two events in history that have marked the complete suspension of football. The first was during the Second World War, which saw the British country as the absolute protagonist from the very beginning of the war actions. The second case was closer in time, in March 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic broke out.

After the death of Elizabeth II, what happened after the tragic death of Lady Di, who recently celebrated 25 years, was also remembered. On that day, 31 August 1997, a match was played between Liverpool and Newcastle, which was suspended and played the following day.

Last year, in April, Prince Philip, consort of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, died. On that occasion, the Premier decided to observe a minute of silence to honor the figure of him, closely linked to football, even if no match has been postponed.
