Facebook is still the most used social network in the world

Facebook established itself at the beginning of 2023 as the most used social network in the world, according to the latest Digital 2023 report by We are social. The list is led by the social network Meta, with 2.958 million users, followed by Whatsapp (2 billion users) e instagram (2 billion users).

WhatsApp is preferred by 15.8% worldwide, followed by Instagram (14.3%) and Facebook (14.2%). WeChat, the “WhatsApp of China”, appears in fourth place with 12.2%, while this year TikTok surpasses Douyin (its exclusive version for the Chinese market) in preferences with 6.1% compared to 5.7 %

Divided by age, Instagram is the app preferred by women between 16 and 24 years old (23.1%), as well as those between 25 and 34 years old (17.6%). For their part, women between 35 and 44 years old (15.4%) and those between 55 and 64 years old (20.3%) prefer WhatsApp, while those between 45 and 54 years old (16.9%) prefer Facebook.

In the case of men, those between 16 and 24 years old (21.3%) prefer Instagram; Facebook, for its part, is the favorite of the male population between 25 and 34 years (15.7%). For the oldest, men aged 45-54 (18.5%) and those aged 55-64 (19.5%), WhatsApp is their top priority in terms of social networking. And this year WhatsApp and Facebook are tied as the favorite social network of men aged 35 to 44 (17.1%).

During 2021, the daily use time of social networks grew by 2% worldwide, reaching 2 hours and 31 minutes, adding another three minutes, as happened the previous year when the average of 2 hours and 25 minutes which was maintained in 2019 and 2020.

The owner of Facebook, however, did not have a good balance sheet in early 2023. As announced this Wednesday, it reported a 41% drop in profits in fiscal 2022, to $23.2 billion.
