For its part, China admitted on Friday that the balloon belongs to it, although it assured that “it is a civilian airship used for research purposes, mainly meteorological”.

China had said the US ‘exaggerated’ the incident and called for ‘caution’

Before the alleged spy balloon was shot down, China said it “never violated the airspace of any sovereign country” and again rejected allegations that it had detected it over US territory, pointing to that country’s politicians and media country to “exaggerate” the incident to “attack and discredit” the Asian giant.
