This week, the Whole Mars Catalog account posted a screenshot of chats between the two traders and tagged Musk. to ask if they are true.
In response to the findings, Musk replied that they were true but he did not disclose it, adding that they should have come out “through friends of friends.”

In recent days, Gates’s stance has become more friendly. In an interview last year with Sway, a New York Times podcast, featured Tesla’s contribution.
“Well, it’s important to say that what Elon did to Tesla was one of the biggest contributions to climate change anyone has made. And you know, underestimating Elon is not a good idea,” the Microsoft founder said.
It’s unclear when the text exchange took place, but Musk said in Joe Rogan’s podcast in February 2021 that he heard Gates bet against Tesla in the stock market.
Shortly after commenting on the messages, Musk also tweeted a Gates meme that compared the Microsoft founder to a pregnant man’s emoji and wrote, “in case you need to lose a boner fast.”
