instagram AND Facebook suffers a worldwide failure that prevents users from uploading content to Meta’s social networks starting at noon.
“We are aware that people you are having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it now,” Andy Stone, of Meta communications, wrote a few minutes before 1 p.m
On X (formerly Twitter) many users vented their anger because they lost content while trying to publish it. Others even expressed fears that their account had been hacked.
According to the Downdetector website, the problems began a few minutes before midday, when reports of faults began to arrive. The most reported problems on Instagram concerned the use of the app (36%), uploading content (36%) and using the Feed (28%).
“When sending a message an error appears and it doesn’t send, plus the stories don’t load,” one user reported. “I open a live broadcast or a story and the application closes. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it. I deleted everything but it keeps happening,” explained another.
In the case of Facebook, nearly 8 out of 10 problem reports involved the inability to log in, which raised the specter of a possible account hack. “I changed my password and did a couple of things thinking I had been hacked,” said one of those affected.
As usual, it didn’t take long for the memes and even uploads to arrive. Elon Musk, owner of X, uploaded a post in which he took Stone’s message and an image of four penguins, in which Twitter appears as the captain and other applications queuing and receiving orders.
