Fans of sims 4 since a few days have full control over the pronouns of their avatar. Developer Maxis, a member of the Electronic Arts (EA) family, wants to make its popular simulation game more inclusive.
In the English version of the title, players can define the subjective, objective, dependent possessive, independent possessive and reflexive forms of their pronouns.
To develop this feature, Maxis partnered with the project It’s getting better and in Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), two American associations that raise awareness of sexual and gender diversity, to ensure that the reality of trans and non-binary people is fully understood.
In the course of its research, the studio indicates that it has also identified and adapted interactions in which binary gender has been used in The sims 4 to make them more inclusive.
In English only
The feature is only available in English at this time.
Maxis explained that since it launched in 2014, the game The Sims 4 has been translated into 18 languages, and many expansion modules have been developed. So, the developer says he is faced with a huge translation task.
In so many languages, there is a lot of complexity in how different languages and cultures use pronouns; therefore we will need more time to research how to properly combine grammar rules in other languages where the game is availablesaid Maxis on the Electronic Arts website.
