When a mobile phone falls into a lake or the sea there is not much to do and the only thing left is to give it up for lost; although there are always exceptions. There are great stories about it, but few like that of a man who recovered his iPhone after being inundated for more than 10 months at the bottom of a river.

The amazing thing is that after spending so much time underwater, the Apple mobile still works normally and even has battery.

In August 2021, Owain Davies lost his iPhone XR (2018) while canoeing down the River Wye near Cinderford in Great Britain. The man was celebrating a bachelor party when his phone went down the river. And there he remained.

Obviously, Davies gave up his cell phone due to the unfortunate event.

Meanwhile the local Michele Pacheco He found it floating in early June while taking a canoe ride with his family, rescued it and took it home, where he dried it with an air compressor.

Miguel Pacheco posted the story of Owain Davies' iPhone XR on Twitter.

Miguel Pacheco posted the story of Owain Davies’ iPhone XR on Twitter.

According to the BBC, the surprise came when Pacheco plugged it in: the iPhone XR showed signs of life and started charging. It immediately turned on, the typical iPhone lock screen appeared with a date, August 13, 2021 and a couple photo.

“Share: Long shot I know! But does anyone recognize the couple? This iPhone was found yesterday on the River Wye while canoeing! I took it home and dried it. I put it in charge this morning and I couldn’t believe what. It works, “wrote Miguel Pacheco on Twitter.

So Pacheco decided to post a photo of his cell phone with the screensaver image on a Cinderford Facebook group, hoping that someone recognize the people in the photo and try to locate the owner. When Davies saw the post, he immediately contacted Pacheco.

Most surprising of all is not that the owner recovered his phone ten months after it fell into the river (which is also surreal), the most surprising thing is that the iPhone has survived underwater for so long.

In the images that Pacheco has shared on social networks, you can see the deterioration that the device has suffered, but the most notable thing is that it continues to work despite everything.

In particular the iPhone XR is not submersibleThey are resistant only to water splashes. The iPhone 12 and the iPhone 13 they only resist underwater for up to 6 meters for 30 minutes. Furthermore, no iPhone has the ability to last 10 months in a row at a depth of several meters. However, Davies’ device defied all the rules of Apple technology.

The iPhone case has been inundated for more than a year

In August 2021, diver Shane Stephen was featured in another rescue of an iPhone whose model was never revealed, but which had been submerged in the River Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland, for more than a year.

As posted by The Scotsman (via AppleInsider), this man recovered from Just Eats’ delivery bikes in bags full of cash.

After contacting O2, the UK operator, it was possible to return the iPhone to its rightful owner who revealed, to everyone’s surprise, that the iPhone had been abandoned more than a year ago.
