The latest Instagram update offers to see restaurants, cafes, shops, parks and places of culture to visit in specific places. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, introduced him through a story, published on July 19 in his account, and captured by the specialized media outlet The Verge. The social network has launched a new interactive map, which is based on the publications of Internet users referenced in these places.
Thus, it is possible to search for a neighborhood, a street or any point of interest on Instagram, and consult the publications -photos and videos- that Internet users have geolocated in that place.
In fact, the referenced establishments do not need to have an Instagram account, since the card works according to the principle of participation. If the establishment really has an account, the application will put it directly in the description. If there isn’t, the user will still be able to look up some basic information, such as the website or phone number.
Parks, cafes, hotels
To access this feature, simply enter a location in the “Explore” tab, symbolized by the magnifying glass icon. Then you need to select a particular place, then click on the “Places” tab, in the middle on the right. The map, which can be enlarged, then appears at the top of the screen. Then it is possible to select a particular point of interest: parks and gardens, cafes, bars, hotels, etc.
Users can also access this map through any geolocated publication: by clicking on the indicated place, the map appears. Finally, it is possible to save certain places in your favorites. To find them, you need to go to your profile, click on the menu located in the upper right corner of the screen, then select “Saved”.
The latest Instagram update has made this feature available in most countries, including France. It enriches some functions already dedicated to local businesses, such as online stores. The social network is currently the subject of much criticism, in particular for its algorithm that no longer values posts from accounts we follow, instead giving too much space to ads and sponsored content.
