To offer diversified videos, Snapchat now offers simultaneous filming with the camera on the back of your smartphone and the selfie camera on the front.

The double photo or video is definitely on the rise in social networks. Following in the footsteps of BeReal, Instagram got there with its copy of a feature that allows you to photograph yourself in a selfie, while adding the scene in front of you in one shot. And the Meta network (Facebook’s parent company) is not the only one that wants to copy the spirit of the French app. Snapchat decided to take inspiration from this function for its camera, but adding a house video touch.

Two shots, one video

Often imitated, Snapchat never skimps on new features for its app’s camera. It is common for the network with the little ghost to inject improvements in rendering quality, the integrated algorithm, to offer new filters in augmented reality or to add on-board technologies to make it essential. Not surprisingly, many manufacturers, from Samsung to Google for their Pixels, forge partnerships to harness in-house technical know-how for their own cameras.

On this occasion, Snapchat has wanted to be in tune with the times and announces the arrival of the dual camera in its on-board camera. This will allow you to create a video or photo Snap using both sides of the smartphone and thus its two cameras for an original final rendering.

A total of four modes let you compose content using the two sources: vertical (one on top of the other), horizontal (side by side), picture-in-picture, or by replacing the background of a video with footage recorded from the other camera. Everything can be shared in the app, just like any other content.

The feature starts rolling out on iOS from August 29. It will be available on Android in the coming months.

How to use the dual camera?

• Open the Snapchat app, making sure it’s up to date.
• Click on the dual camera icon that appears on the right.
• Choose to take a photo or record a video.
• Choose from the four modes offered.
• Then share the obtained content with your friends.
