Former US President Donald Trump congratulated Brazilian Jair Bolsonaro for his performance in the polls in the first round of the 2022 Brazilian election. Bolsonaro finished this phase of the election in second place with 43.2% of the valid votes (51) million. PT candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took first place with 48.23% (57.2 million) of the votes.

The duo will compete in the second round on October 30.

“Congratulations to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for vastly surpassing false polls by the fake news media and reaching the second round with a radical left opponent on October 30,” Trump tweeted.

“Now that the other conservatives are out, President Bolsonaro is in a very strong position for a major victory. More importantly, he will prevail because he appreciates the great work that Brazil’s great people have done and done in the last 24 hours.”

The day before the first round of voting, Trump asked Brazilians to vote for Bolsonaro.

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez congratulated Lula on Sunday’s results.

Fernandez wrote on Twitter, “I congratulate my dear Lula on his first-round victory and extend my sincere regards to the Brazilian people for their deeply democratic expression.”

The Colombian president also posted a message of support for Lula on Twitter.

Gustavo Petro said, “I congratulate Lula on her victory in the first round. I congratulate the Brazilian people for their tremendous participation in the elections.”

Another representative who congratulated Lula was Luis Arce, President of Bolivia.

“We congratulate our brother Lula, who won the first round of the elections in Brazil, and salute the Brazilian people, who have shown that democracy is the only way to build fair, inclusive and socially peaceful societies,” Arce said.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador also expressed his support for the PT.

“Congratulations, brother and comrade Lula. The Brazilian people once again demonstrated their democratic duty and above all their inclination towards equality and justice.”
