Former President Donald Trump, 76, has filed a federal defamation suit against the parent company of international news channel CNN. He claims a not so modest US$475 million – almost R$2.5 billion at current price – in compensation.

According to TMZ, Trump and his legal advisers have complained that CNN has allegedly labeled him ‘racist’ and ‘Russian butler’ in some of their broadcasts.

Lawyers for Joe Biden’s predecessor are seeing a veiled comparison of their client with Hitler by the network, repeatedly using the phrase “Big Lie” to refer to the fact that Trump contested the election result in 2020.

In the view of the former president’s legal representatives, the phrase refers directly to a speech made by Hitler to incite hatred against the Jews and justify the Holocaust.

Beyond highlighting any negative information about the author and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN allegedly sought to use its enormous influence as a ‘trusted’ news source to smear the complainant in the minds of its viewers and readers. In order to defeat it politically”, a quote from the case claims.

CNN has yet to make an official statement on the matter.
