Baseball is a team sport born in the United States that has taken root in other parts of the world, particularly in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, where great players have emerged.
In its basic rules, baseball is made up of two teams, each of nine players, who, with the help of a bat, must hit the ball, thus allowing it to travel across the four bases of the field. Each time a player steps on all four bases, they earn a point.or better known as a career.
Major League Baseball (MLB) matches don’t have exact lengths because there is no game clock, as in most popular sports.
How long does a match last?
The length of a baseball game is timeless, but is determined by the time it takes for the teams to retire in each of the nine innings. The game is divided into nine innings.
Each entry is divided into two rounds, where each team will alternate attack and defense. In each of them, the defending team has the mission to get three outs per inningfor a total of 27 during the game, as the attacker will try to hit the ball away from the defenders to run around the bases to score points.
The team that scored the most points during the nine innings will win the game, and if the teams are tied at the end of that number of innings, another inning will be played in the event of sudden death (extra inning) until either player wins, as tie A in baseball is awarded only when league rules prevent the game from continuing.
There are several factors that could determine whether a match ends earlier or later than expected. Not to mention the weather factor, which is usually an important part of the duration of a match; innings can be delayed or accelerated because a team is receiving a lot of hits and runs; or if the pitchers are dominant and easily retire the batters they face.
The longest game in history dates back to 1984: the Chicago White Sox it took eight hours and six minutes beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 after 25 innings.
