The leader of the Senate party, Massimiliano Romeo, told ANSA this Friday that the far-right League party wants the Ministry of Family and Birth among the portfolios of Italy’s new government (7). The request was confirmed to supporters at a meeting moderated by Matteo Salvini.

“With this government, we hope to implement projects that we have supported several times in Parliament, following the policies of Trentino-Alto Adige, the region with the highest birth rate in the country,” said Romeo.

The Senator also pointed out that he would “really want” to command the Union’s ministries of Regional Affairs, Autonomy and Reform. “We will be the guarantee of stability for the government and the country,” he added to ANSA.

However, Romeo stressed that “negotiations are still ongoing” with other leaders of the right-wing bloc that won the September 25 elections, the ultranationalist Brotherhood of Italy (FDI) and conservative Forza Italia.

The first session of the 29th legislature in the Chamber of Deputies, which will appoint Giorgia Meloni as prime minister, will be held on 13 October at 10:00 (Rome time). The main item on the agenda is the initiation of official consultations with the country’s president, Sergio Mattarella, for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the subsequent formation of the new government.
