A nurse was tried this Monday (10) for murdering seven newborn babies and trying to kill 10 people, and 2016. Lucy Letby, 32, denied the murder of five boys and two girls.
But during the trial, prosecutor Nick Johnson told the jury that the hospital’s neonatal unit had seen a “significant” increase in mortality at 18 months from January 2015. The deaths were described as “unexplained” or “unexpected”, according to a report by the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health in July 2016.
Also, in his speech to the Manchester jury, Nick Johnson emphasized that child counselors realize that deaths have a common denominator. According to her, most of the deaths occurred the night Lucy was on duty. “When Lucy Letby was taken to the daylight, fainting and deaths began to occur during daylight hours,” Johnson added.
According to the Manchester Crown Court newspaper, Letby injected the victims with insulin, milk or air at the hospital’s neonatal unit, which deals with premature or sick newborns. Investigations show that he killed one child with insulin and tried to kill another with an air injection the next day.
He was arrested and charged in November 2020. Lucy had already been questioned for crimes twice in 2018 and 2019, with no action taken at the time.
According to Britain’s Daily Mail, the prosecutor said police discovered that the nurse had been “monitoring” some of the victims’ families via Facebook.
